Garments are classified based on the ultraviolet protection factor (UPF). The UV protection of fabric depends on the content, weave, density and colour. A UPF rating is an indication of the fabric’s ability to block out UV radiation.
For example, a UPF of 50 means only 1/50th or 2% of the UV rays will penetrate through the clothing thus giving a protection of 98% of where the fabric is in contact on the body.
KingGee have a selection of garments that are rated as UPF Excellent 50+ and meet the minimum body coverage as per the updated 2017 standard.
All fabrics used in our UPF rated garments have been tested to AS/NZS 4399:1996 and meet the requirements to the updated standard AS/NZS 4399:2017
Articles which have been designed to cover the maximum area of the body are recommended. For garments which are constructed of multi-components excluding those areas not exposed to sunlight (i.e. armpits) the lower UPF rating achieved in testing will be claimed on the garment.
