Andrew Carvolth, Mixed Goods

Craftsmanship, community, and sustainability come together at Mixed Goods, where design is driven by passion and ingenuity. Co-founded by Andrew Carvolth, Mixed Goods celebrates the art of making—melding tradition with innovation to create timeless pieces that honor materials, foster connection, and inspire curiosity.

For Andrew Carvolth, furniture design is a way of life shaped by heritage, curiosity, and purpose. Growing up in a family of craftspeople, he developed a deep respect for hands-on work and problem-solving. After earning an honors degree from ANU and refining his craft at the prestigious JamFactory in Adelaide, Andrew co-founded Mixed Goods, where his passion for innovation, sustainability, and collaboration drives his work.

"What inspired me to pursue this path was growing up in a family where working with your hands was a way of life. Innovation and problem-solving were second nature, and I fell into timber early, broadening out into other materials like cast metals and pattern-making when I moved to Adelaide."

Over the past nine years as a practicing furniture designer, Andrew has developed a reputation for exploring the stories behind materials. Whether it’s timber, textured metals, or reclaimed objects, his work is driven by a deep fascination with the narratives embedded in the everyday.

Andrew’s process is rooted in craftsmanship and innovation. He reinterprets traditional techniques, blending them with modern approaches to create pieces that challenge perceptions and celebrate the beauty of the handmade.

"The best designs are those where the evidence of the hand is clear—tool marks, textured finishes, or sculpted surfaces that tell the story of the maker’s touch."

For Andrew, sustainability isn’t just a consideration—it’s a responsibility. At Mixed Goods, he strives to use local, salvaged, or waste materials that might otherwise be discarded, ensuring every piece contributes to a more sustainable future.

"You can’t not think about sustainability in design today. It’s about asking where materials come from, their cultural value, and how they can be reused or reimagined."

Community is another cornerstone of Andrew’s philosophy. Having been shaped by the making and design communities he encountered from his early days in Canberra to his training at the JamFactory, he believes in the power of collaboration and shared knowledge.

Comfort is essential when you’re pulling long days in the workshop. Andrew swears by KingGee, whose innovative designs are made for modern craftspeople like him.

"What KingGee represents to me is innovation in materials made for the makers of today. Comfort is everything when you’re working hard, and they get that."

From heavily sculpted timber to textured metals, Andrew’s work embodies craftsmanship, curiosity, and a commitment to sustainability. Every creation from Mixed Goods is a celebration of process, materiality, and the enduring beauty of the handmade.
